Nida Plateau

The famous plateau of Nida located ataltitude of 1450 meters above sea level. It bears the ancient name of the Psiloritis mountain and more specifically derives from the pronunciation of the phrase “stin Ida (in Ida)” i.e. Nida. A sacred ground in antiquity dedicated to Mother Nature and to Zeus, the cult of which was prominent in the area with its cave “Idaion Andro” set on the west part of the plateau. There is a legend referring to a dispute between the people of Voriza and Anogia both claiming the plateau of Nida. In the end this was resolved with the help of a priest and the plateau was granted to the people of Anogia.
